Bob has been turning unusual wood since1975; working primarily with burled, spalted and small diameter woods found in Bruce and Grey Counties. Burls are wart-like growths on tree trunks. These rare appendages reveal curious grain, beautiful colours and magical optical properties. Spalt is a fungus that leaves intricate black lines in the wood in a myriad of patterns. Bob also designs and makes small tables using the same highly figured wood found in his turnings.
Bob's work has been exhibited and sold in some of Ontario's finest galleries and shops. His bowls and vases are "one-of-a-kind" and have earned several awards for excellence in wood craftsmanship.
Bob is a long time resident of Southampton.
